On Thursday, Bill Self was hospitalized after experiencing what KU described as “some concerning symptoms.”

Self also underwent a heart procedure and is expected to make a full recovery.

According to the release from Kansas, Self had two stents inserted during the procedure. He wasn’t feeling well on Thursday and later went to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for further evaluation.

Late on Saturday, Self, who was released from Lawrence Memorial Hospital, provided the very latest update on his condition and plans moving forward.

“I want to thank all the amazing doctors and nurses at LMH Health for the excellent care I received during my stay there,” said Bill Self. “I feel strong and am excited to be home. Our team has had a productive summer and look forward to our batteries being recharged and prepping for this upcoming season.”

The 2025-26 season will be Self’s 23rd season at Kansas, where he has a career 609-148 record.

This past season, Kansas entered the year as the No. 1-ranked team in college basketball for the second straight year.

However, Kansas finisehd the 2024-25 season with an overall record or 21-13 and 11-9 in the Big 12.

With the addition of point guard Nginyu Ngala, KU’s roster now consists of Jayden Dawson, Corbin Allen, Tre White, Samis Calderon, Kohl Rosario, Jamari McDowell, Wilder Evers, Elmarko Jackson, Melvin Council, Bryson Tiller, Will Thengvall, Darryn Peterson, Justin Cross, Paul Mbiya, and Flory Bidunga.

With Ngala, Mbiya, and Rosario on board, KU’s roster is set

When meeting with the media last Monday, Self said he didn’t view his roster as being complete until Kohl Rosario and Paul Mbiya signed on with the Jayhawks.

“Well, I think our team was incomplete,” said Self. :I liked our team going into it, but we needed a big—obviously for size, but also for depth—and to allow us to play two bigs together some. And then, of course, we needed shooting.

“So I think we were able to probably do about as well as you can do late in the game with those two,” he added. “So, really happy about it. They’ve both been good so far.”
