The Jayhawks were set to bring in four new receivers from the transfer portal, and that number increased before fall camp. Nebraska wide receiver Jaidyn Doss told Jayhawk Slant he plans to enroll at Kansas next week.

Doss went in the portal last week and after speaking with several college coaches he narrowed his choices to Kansas and Kansas State.

He decided on Monday he would be moving to Lawrence and joining the team before fall camp.

“Choosing Kansas just felt right for me,” Doss said. “After hitting the portal, I really took my time thinking about what I wanted. Not just in football, but as a student-athlete overall. Kansas stood out because of the culture they’re building and the momentum the program has right now.”

Being from Kansas City, Doss has followed the program and noticed the progress they have made under Lance Leipold.

“You can feel the energy around the team, and Coach Leipold has things trending in the right direction,” Doss said. “I wanted to be part of something that’s growing and competitive, and I believe KU gives me that. Plus, it’s closer to home for me, which makes a big difference when it comes to family support.”

Kansas coaches “kept it real”

Doss said he spoke with different people inside KU’s program the last few days. There were conversations with Leipold, wide receivers coach Terry Samuel and general manager Rob Ianello.

Kansas offered Doss a scholarship when he played high school football at Ray-Pec. He had past conversations with their coaching staff.

“From the jump, the KU coaching staff kept it real with me,” he said. “I talked with Coach Leipold, Coach Samuel, and Coach Rob the most. The way they approached things was all about honesty and development. They weren’t just selling a dream; they were laying out a real plan for how they see me fitting and growing in the system.

He continued: “Coach Samuel especially stood out. He’s passionate and knows how to get the most out of his guys. You can tell he cares about his receivers as people, not just players. That meant a lot to me.

Looking for a fresh start

During his conversations with the Kansas coaches, they told him he has the ability to stretch the field and make plays after the catch. They pointed out the positives and things he can work on to get better.

“With how creative their offense is, especially with how they use motion and get their playmakers involved in space, I felt like it was a natural fit,” he said. “They talked about using me inside and outside, and how my skill set can create mismatches. They talked about my flaws and what I do good. That gave me confidence that they really did their homework and see real value in what I bring.”

He is ready for the next chapter in his career. After spending his first two seasons at Nebraska he can use that experience and move forward at Kansas.

“It feels like a fresh start and I’m hungry,” Doss said. “I’ve learned a lot from my time at Nebraska, and now I’m bringing that experience with me. I’m ready to take the next step. It’s exciting to walk into a new locker room with something to prove but also knowing I’m stepping into a program that believes in me. I feel motivated, focused, and thankful for the opportunity. This next chapter is all about growth, competing at a high level, and doing whatever I can to help Kansas win.”
