Jalon Daniels and Dean Miller talk about first day of camp

Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels and defensive end Dean Miller were the two players who represented the team for the first media session at fall camp. See what the seniors had to say about starting their last camp and much more.
QB Jalon Daniels
Jalon Daniels talked about how he’s become more focused and mature heading into his sixth year with the program. He said his experience helps him lead younger players and that he’s focused on winning and setting the right tone.
With 50 new scholarship players, Daniels wants to be an example and help them learn how the program works. He’s also trying to enjoy every his final season, starting with his last fall camp. Daniels said the excitement of being back on the field was obvious and that the new players came ready to work.
He has a close bond with teammate Daniel Hishaw, who’s also in his final season. Daniels said Hishaw has grown as a leader. He also mentioned mentoring freshman Johnny Thompson and watching his progress. Daniels is excited about the future, and playing in the renovated stadium.
DE Dean Miller
Dean Miller said the first day of fall camp was tough with the heat, but it felt good to be back. As a senior, he knows this is his last chance and wants to make it count. He’s been impressed with the new guys, especially Justice Finkley and Bangally Kamara, and said the group has meshed well.
Miller likes Finkley’s leadership and work ethic, saying younger players look up to him. He also talked about how the simplified defense under DK McDonald is helping him play faster and more confidently. Miller is excited to play in the new stadium and mentioned mentoring younger players like Garrett Martin and Dak Brinkley. He’s ready for the season and believes the defense will show up strong.
