Jalon Daniels using summer time to build chemistry with receivers

One of the big questions going into fall camp has been how fast will Jalon Daniels build chemistry with the wide receivers?
Daniels missed spring football after a procedure and the Jayhawks lost their top four receivers due to graduation. The coaching staff relied on the transfer portal, signing four in the offseason.
But with Daniels absent in spring football they did not get a chance to work together. This summer has been important getting on the same page in workouts and making up for lost time. That included a trip to Daniels’ home town in California.
The players got time off from summer workouts and a group of receivers including Emmanuel Henderson, Cam Pickett, Levi Wentz, Bryson Canty, Keaton Kubecka and Doug Emilien went to California to train with Daniels.
“Just being able to be with each other,” Daniels said. “This is a receiver room that I did not have the chance to be able to do much of spring with, and also it’s not the same receiver room that I’ve spent the last five years with. Being able to learn each other, being able to learn not only about the athlete, but as the person.”
The players got a break earlier in the summer and Henderson flew to California with Daniels to work out. The idea hatched after that to take a bigger group.
“It really just started, when E-Man came back home with me the last break that we had and he came and trained with me,” Daniels said. “He was like, ‘Bro, what if more people came?’ I was like, ‘What if more people came?’ All right, forget it. Hit the receiver room. See who all wants to come. Everybody that decided to come ended up coming and had a great time.”
