Matt Gildersleeve excited about players performance, fall camp

Kansas strength coach Matt Gildersleeve praised the team’s progress during a shortened summer conditioning period, and talked about a strong cultural foundation despite 50 new scholarship players. He highlighted the team’s growth through zero missed academic appointments and over 500 hours of community service, showing buy-in from both newcomers and returners.
Gildersleeve credited leadership from players like Daniel Hishaw and newcomer Justice Finkley, with the Texas transfer earning a spot on the leadership council through consistent, high-level effort.

Gildersleeve pointed out the environment this offseason, saying no starting spots are guaranteed. Several players stood out physically, including Emmanuel Henderson, who topped Jason Bean’s top-end speed, and linebacker Jon Jon Kamara, who leads the team in athletic performance metrics. Returning players like Tommy Dunn and Carson Bruhn showed physical development. Gildersleeve pointed to quarterback Jalon Daniels’ transformation, and a new level of daily focus and leadership.
