Notebook: Bill Self talks after Late Night scrimmage

At the conclusion of Friday night’s Late Night in the Phog scrimmage, Team Crimson defeated Team Blue 27-23.
Playing 15 minutes with a running clock, freshman guard Darryn Peterson scored 12 points to lead the way for the Crimson squad.
Peterson was the only player to score in double figures on Friday night.
Peterson (12), Flory Bidunga (5), Samis Calderon (4), Wilder Evers (2), Justin Cross (2), and Tre White (2) scored for the Crimson team
The Blue team was led by Kohl Rosario (5), Jamari McDowell (5), Paul Mbiya (4), Corbin Allen (3), Melvin Council (2), Bryson Tiller (2), and Gee Ngala (2).
The biggest observation following Friday night’s scrimmage
During Friday night’s 15-minute (running clock) scrimmage, both sides combined to hit just 2-of-15 shots from behind the arc. Team Blue was 2-of-9 from behind the arc, while Team Crimson was 0-of-6 from deep.
Self, not long after the scrimmage ended, was asked about the performance of his team.
“Probably,” said Self when asked if that’s what he expected while meeting with the media after the scrimmage. “I don’t think we’ll play that way in real games, but it was fine.
“One thing is different, though, that when you get bodies out there and adrenaline is flowing, you notice how tired everybody got, quick.,” he added. “That was good for them, though.”
Heat has prevented Kansas from practicing inside Allen Fieldhouse
Self, after the scrimmage, said his team has been unable to practice in Allen Fieldhouse due to the heat.
“We haven’t been able to practice in there,” said Self. “We had two guys get full-body cramps the one time we practiced in there. We haven’t even been able to practice in there.
“Hopefully, it will cool off, you know, in the next couple of weeks, before we actually need to start getting in there on a regular basis,” he said.
