Kansas wide receivers Emmanuel Henderson, Levi Wentz, and Doug Emilien got their first taste of practicing inside the newly completed west side of David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium last week.

The group of receivers talked about their experience and what it was like to practice inside the stadium.

The $450 million project has been years in the making since Travis Goff announced the project the week Kansas played TCU in 2023.

Henderson, who transferred from Alabama, said the experience exceeded all expectations.

“Wow, man, It’s amazing,” Henderson said. “They did a tremendous job with it. Coming in for that first scrimmage we had in the stadium, it was amazing. I love the energy in there, and it’s going to be a very exciting environment.”

The team practiced on the new turf Friday night. They got another practice two days later on Sunday and the reviews have been very positive.

“It blew everything out the world for me,” Henderson said. “It was tremendous. I loved it.”

Wentz, who has been in Lawrence long enough to watch the construction progress when arrived in January, said walking into the finished product felt surreal.

“It’s awesome, man. I don’t know if you’ve been out there yet, but you walk on that field and you look around, especially being here and just seeing the whole process, watching it from ground zero up, it’s unreal,” Wentz said. “It’s a cool feeling.”

Emilien has seen the progress longer than Wentz and Henderson since the pair of receivers arrived before spring football. He has been watching the build since the stadium was torn down.

“Man, I’ve seen it come from nothing,” Emilien said. “Honestly, it’s a blessing to be here right now and seeing the process of it. And we just excited to play ball. Honestly, no matter where we play at, we just excited to play ball again.”
