Players talk about getting ready for Wagner

The Jayhawks are coming off an opening season win over Fresno State and look to move to 2-0. The players looked back at the victory and ahead to Friday’s game against Wagner.
Lyrik Rawls- safety
Lyrik Rawls reflected on the team’s performance and described grabbing the first interception in the renovated stadium. He said he focused on securing the ball before celebrating. He likes the defense’s ability to force turnovers, especially with contributions from depth players, but pointed out that defensive coordinator D.K. McDonald still pointed out details to clean up.
Rawls highlighted the importance of communication in the secondary and spoke about helping younger teammates like Jalen Todd and Austin Alexander build confidence. He described running out of the tunnel and how it almost brough him to tears. He liked playing his game next to Taylor Davis since the two became friends since their recruiting visit. He said they must stay focused and not take Wagner lightly.
Jalon Daniels
Jalon Daniels saw explosiveness from the offense and effort but noting mistakes that need to be cleaned up. He broke down his 18-of-20 passing performance and the importance of distributing the ball to 10 different receivers. He said his high completion percentage is a sign of growth and better decision-making. He said the offense must “keep its foot on the pedal” heading into Wagner. Daniels also talked about the new dining facilities that opened this week.
Daniel Hishaw
Daniel Hishaw said there are always plays he wants back but the focus is on improving each week. He spoke about the offensive line’s aggressiveness mentioning how much that chemistry drives the team’s success. Hishaw said going for it on fourth down shows the staff’s confidence in the offense, which gives them energy. Running out of the tunnel in the new stadium was a unique experience. Looking ahead, he stressed preparation, team unity, and focused on getting a win over Wagner.
