Chip Lindsey contract details at Mizzou
An open records request has made the memorandum of understanding of Chip Lindsey’s contract with Mizzou available. Here are the details for the Tigers’ new offensive coordinator.
Salary/Years and incentives
Lindsey signed a three-year contract with Mizzou.
- In 2026: Lindsey will receive $1.1 million in total base compensation.
- In 2027: He will receive $1.1 million in total base compensation.
- In 2028: His salary will jump to $1.6 million.
That makes the three-year contract worth a total of $3.8 million in base compensation.
Lindsey was making $1.4 million per year at Michigan and Mizzou paid former offensive coordinator Kirby Moore $1.5 million for the 2025 year.
If Lindsey is still employed by the university as of July 1, 2028, he will receive a $200,000 retention bonus.
There are a number of incentives that could increase that base compensation.

- SEC Incentives (highest level only)
- Division Champions & Championship Game Participant: $25,000
- SEC Conference Champions: $50,000
- Postseason participation (must be employed by Mizzou at the date of the game and only highest value earned)
- Birmingham, Gasparilla or non-affiliated SEC bowl: $15,000
- Citrus or SEC Group of Six bowl: $20,000
- New Year’s Six participant (non-playoff): $30,000
- College Football Playoff participant: $40,000
- CFP Quarter-finals participant: $45,000
- CFP Semi-finals participant: $50,000
- CFP National Championship game participant: $60,000
- CFP National Championship winner: $75,000
- Victories (regular season and post season combined, only highest value)
- 10 wins: $5,000
- 11 wins: $10,000
- 12 wins or more: $15,000
- Final season-ending ranking
- Season-ending Top 25 rank in AP/Coaches/CFP Poll: $5,000
- Broyles Award (only highest value)
- Finalist: $5,000
- Winner: $10,000
Buyout and termination
If Mizzou were to fire Lindsey without cause, it is responsible for liquidated damages equal to 100 percent of the base compensation and retention bonus that would be due for the rest of the contract.
If Lindsey were to leave here is the yearly breakdown of his buyout:
- Between now and May 31, 2026: $4.5 million
- June 1, 2026-Dec. 31, 2026: $1.3 million
- Jan. 1, 2027-Dec. 31, 2027: $1 million
- Jan. 1, 2028-Dec. 31, 2028: $500,000
- After Jan. 1, 2029: none
Lindsey will owe no damages if here were to take a head coaching position for any college, takes any level of coaching job in a professional league in the United States or Canada or if Drinkwitz is no longer the head coach at Mizzou.
Extras
Mizzou will pay Lindsey a $16,000 moving expense and will provide Lindsey with up to 30 days of temporary housing.
Mizzou will pay Lindsey a hiring incentive of $16,000. I believe that’s just a signing bonus.
Mizzou will provide a $500 monthly stipend for an automobile.
Lindsey will receive complimentary home football and basketball tickets.
