Mizzou rises to 14 in AP Poll

The bye week was pretty kind to the Missouri Tigers in the AP Poll.
Without playing a game, the Tigers rose five spots from No. 19 to No. 14.
The Tigers also rose four spots in the Coaches Poll, going from No. 18 to No. 14.
The Tigers were receiving votes to open the season and have slowly climbed each week. They entered the rankings at No. 25 after Week 2, then rose to No. 23 after Week 3. After Week 4 and a win against South Carolina, the Tigers rose to No. 20. Then they climbed to No. 19 last week.
This week’s rise is thanks to some major drops after stunning losses Saturday.
Formerly-No. 7 Penn State was the biggest faller. After starting the season at No. 2, the Nittany Lions have started 3-2, including a loss Saturday to previously winless UCLA. Six weeks into the season, Penn State does not have a Power-4 win. And that led to the Nittany Lions dropping completely out of the top 25.
That’s also the case for formerly-No. 9 Texas. The Longhorns started the season at No. 1 and have also started 3-2 without a win against a Power-4 team. After losing to unranked Florida, Texas dropped completely out of the top 25.
Formerly-No. 10 Alabama rose to No. 8 after beating formerly-No. 16 Vanderbilt. The Commodores dropped to No. 20.
Formerly-No. 14 Iowa State dropped its first game of the season, losing to unranked Cincinnati, which dropped the Cyclones to No. 22.
And sitting right in front of Mizzou at No. 18 last week, Florida State lost to No. 3 Miami and dropped to No. 25.
All of those losses allowed the Tigers to rise five spots without playing a game.
Looking ahead at the rest of the Mizzou schedule, the Tigers will host No. 8 Alabama this week. Then will play Auburn, No. 20 Vanderbilt, No. 5 Texas A&M, Mississippi State, No. 6 Oklahoma and Arkansas.
