Oklahoma preview: Drinkwitz on coaching rumors, Pribula injury update

On the latest episode of The MizzouToday Show, Kyle McAreavy and Kenny Van Doren preview Missouri’s Week 13 matchup with Oklahoma, discussing Eliah Drinkwitz’s comments on coaching rumors, the future of NIL for the Tigers and Beau Pribula’s injury status ahead of the 11 a.m. Saturday contest on ABC. The guys pivot to men’s basketball for injury updates on Annor Boateng, Trent Burns and Trent Pierce, while looking ahead at Missouri’s next few opponents before the Notre Dame matchup.
Drinkwitz on job rumors
“Drinkwitz was remarkably open talking with us this week,” McAreavy said. “He did his standard opening statement … Then right before closing his opening statement, he said there were a couple of things he wanted to address. … The first one was coaching rumors. Basically said kind of the similar thing to what he’s said when it was brought up before. Kind of, whatever you’ve heard, whatever’s been said online, it’s rumors. That’s all we really have at this point … it’s all speculation.”
“If any coach comes out today and says ‘I bleed (insert school color) and there’s no chance I’m ever going to leave.’ And the next week, Eastern Washington offers them $25 million to coach there next year. They’re going to take it. This is a business, people are making decisions about their livelihood.”
Fortune 500 comments
“NIL has made college recruiting and roster building kind of a whole new beast,” McAreavy said. “It was never not a competitive environment. But you can’t just rely on trying to lock down your states borders and bringing in the best Missouri kids because they want to play at Mizzou. … Those kids are getting big, big offers to go elsewhere. And you have to match it, or at least be competitive.
Oklahoma preview
“There’s a non-zero chance that Beau Pribula could be ready to go this week,” McAreavy said. “… He’s been cleared to practice in very specific situations, which is why you saw him warming up before the game Saturday.”
Basketball update
“Annor Boateng is expected to play minimal minutes,” McAreavy said. “What minimal minutes means. I don’t know. But he is expected to play against South Dakota.”
“On Trent Burns, still recovering,” McAreavy said. “He has a doctor’s appointment, I think, next week.”
