Top Team From Each Region: East 1-4
Week 1 in Eastern North Carolina brought fireworks, statement wins, and some tough choices in narrowing down the top performances across Regions 1 through 4. Programs like West Craven’s shutout of Havelock and Tarboro’s battle with Rocky Mount easily could have made the cut, but four teams stood out above the rest with dominant showings, historic wins, and playmakers who set the tone for the season ahead.
Region 1: Northeastern
Northeastern reloaded in a big way. Junior quarterback Zak Ishman lit it up, completing 17 of 22 passes for 383 yards and 6 touchdowns with no interceptions. More than seven receivers caught a pass, five caught multiple, and five hauled in touchdowns. It was a complete performance for the Eagles, who now turn their attention to DH Conley.
Region 2: East Duplin
East Duplin made history with a 20-0 win, shutting out Wallace-Rose Hill for the first time in over 20 years and handing the Bulldogs their first home shutout in more than two decades. The result was surprising to some, but at the same time, this is East Duplin — one of the most respected programs in the East. Shawn Davis, a physical RB/LB, was a difference-maker on both sides of the ball with his power running and aggressive play at linebacker.
Region 3: Cardinal Gibbons
The Crusaders went into Greensboro and came back home with a 28-point victory over Dudley. Cardinal Gibbons had a balanced and efficient offensive performance, led by quarterback Gannon Jones, who went 16-for-21 for 200 yards and 2 touchdowns with no interceptions.
Region 4: Terry Sanford
Terry Sanford survived a dogfight with 71st, winning 46-44 in one of the best games of the week. The Bulldogs led 21-16 at halftime, but the Falcons exploded for 22 third-quarter points to take a 36-28 lead into the fourth. Terry Sanford answered with 18 points in the final period to seal the win. Quarterback Jacob Moore stood out, running the RPO to perfection, making plays with his legs, and showing poise as a true field general.
