Best Case Scenario: 9-1 Overall, 7-0 District 1-5A
Belen’s schedule is loaded with favorable match-ups and winnable toss games. They’re favored in two and have a realistic shot in at least six other coin flip games. If they clean up the execution and reverse a few close 2024 losses, like narrow setbacks to Los Alamos, Valencia, and Santa Fe, they could be the surprise district champs and finish with just one loss.
Worst Case Scenario: 2-8 Overall, 2-5 District 1-5A
If the Eagles don’t capitalize on the coin flip games and regress against stronger district teams, this could be a disappointing season. Losses to teams like Highland, Miyamura, and Capital, all of which beat Belen in 2024, could turn the district slate upside down. Only Del Norte and Rio Grande feel like sure wins.
Final Prediction: 6-4 Overall, 5-2 District 1-5A
This is a very manageable schedule, and with solid returning experience and a strong district outlook, Belen is poised to improve. While a 9-win ceiling exists, so does a 2-win floor, making this one of the widest ranges in 5A. We land somewhere in in the middle with 5 or 6 wins. The Eagles should stay in the playoff hunt and have the potential to win a playoff game.
