The picture at the top of New Mexico high school football remains steady as the contenders begin to settle into their places. There were no major shake-ups this week, but teams across the state are starting to claim their seat at the table as district play takes center stage.

Top Ten

Las Cruces (No. 1) continues to roll, dismantling Hobbs 52-13 to remain unbeaten at 5-0 and firmly entrenched as the state’s top team. Right behind them, Cleveland (No. 2) impressed with a 42-17 win over El Paso-Pebble Hills (TX), and Volcano Vista (No. 3) kept its rhythm with a 35-7 victory over Eldorado. Centennial (No. 4) needed all four quarters to survive Carlsbad 21-20, while 5A’s Artesia (No. 5) rises into the Top-5 after a convincing 35-7 win over Gadsden.

The rest of the Top-10 remains consistent: Rio Rancho (No. 6) stumbled against El Paso-Eastlake (TX) dropped one spot, La Cueva (No. 7) edged Farmington in overtime also slid down one spot, and Hobbs (No. 8) took their second loss but stay Top-10 thanks to strength of schedule. Piedra Vista (No. 9) was idle, and Alamogordo (No. 10) improved to 4-1 with a decisive win over Organ Mountain.

Outside the Ten

In Class 5A, Roswell (No. 11) and Los Lunas (No. 12) stay put, while Cibola (No. 13) now sits 4-1 after beating Clovis. 4A powers are also making noise: Bloomfield (No. 18) crushed Aztec 65-0, St. Pius X (No. 19) idle week, and St. Michael’s (No. 24) proved themselves against 2A juggernaut Eunice with a 47-8 statement win.
