New Mexico High School Football Week 13 Team Rankings
Major Moves, Playoff Shakes, and November Surprises
The state playoffs always bring chaos, upsets, and movement…and Week 13 delivered exactly that. With elimination games underway across multiple classes, several programs surged forward while others suffered sharp drops as the postseason pressure tightened.
The most notable shift came from Carlsbad’s impressive 35-13 road win over Rio Rancho in the opening round of the Class 6A state playoffs. The Cavemen played one of their most complete games of the season, and the convincing victory catapults them into the top ten, jumping to No. 9 entering the quarterfinal round.
Rio Rancho, meanwhile, continues a troubling trend. Once ranked as high as No. 4 late in the season, the Rams slide to No. 11, extending their late-season dip.
The biggest fall this week belongs to Mayfield, who drops completely out of the Top-30 for the first time this season. The Trojans entered the postseason at No. 29 but fell to (new rank: 45) following a 36-22 loss to Highland. The defeat caps a difficult stretch for the once-storied program and places them firmly in reset mode heading into the offseason. Highland, on the other hand, soars upward. The Hornets (now No. 44) head to Artesia this week.
Elsewhere, several programs quietly strengthened their playoff stock:
- Navajo Prep climbs after a strong 22-13 win over Jal
- Ruidoso moves back up following a 22-13 road win over West Las Vegas
- West Las Vegas takes another fall
- Hot Springs continues rising after defeating previously high 3A ranked Thoreau.
- Belen returns to the Top-30 for the first time since the 2021 season
With quarterfinal action loaded this weekend and plenty of potential chaos still ahead, Week 13 may only be the beginning of a dramatic postseason reshaping.
