Tech adds much needed point guard in former Stanford commit Jaylen Petty

After several months of speculation, Texas Tech has finally found their point guard they have been looking for in the upcoming season.
Auburn (WA) Rainier Beach guard Jaylen Petty has announced his commitment to Texas Tech after he was previously committed to Stanford.
What does the four-star prospect bring for Grant McCasland and the Red Raiders?
One of the top players in Washington can make an immediate impact
Petty is a 6-foot point guard who is arriving in Lubbock after having a very impressive senior year at Rainier Beach High School in Seattle, Washington.
The Gatorade Player of the Year in Washington for the 2024-2025 season averaged 24.5 points per game, 5.9 rebounds per game, 5.5 assists per game, and 3.2 steals per game.
He shot 59.5% from the field and 46.6% from behind the arc.
Petty led his team to a 28-3 record, a Class 3A state title and also received MVP honors for the state tournament.
Petty joining an already stacked roster
Along with great assist numbers, Petty is also a great shooter. Other great shooters McCasland has on his team include Christian Anderson, Donovan Atwell, and Tyeree Bryan among others.
McCasland has been adamant on adding another point guard to his rotation after Elijah Hawkins ran out of eligibility, so finding another primary ball handler was a big priority this offseason.
Petty joins Anderson as another point guard that will lead the Red Raider offense, with bigs such as LeJuan Watts, JT Toppin, and Luke Bamgboye to dish the ball to down low.
After an Elite 8 appearance last season, Tech looks to get back to the tournament and make an even bigger run with all of the pieces they’ve acquired.
