One of Rutgers Football’s recent visitors, Class of 2026 athlete RJ Wortman took a midweek unofficial visit to campus recently and this trip left a strong impression on the fast rising prospect, as he was offered and made the decision to commit shortly after that.

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound athlete played recruit from Colonia High School and originally was a Maine Black Bears commit, announcing his decision back in early July. However after a strong start to his senior season, Wortman decided to reopen his recruitment in early October and that’s when Rutgers made their push.

“So I went up there on Wednesday, and they just gave me a day in the life with everything,” Wortman told The Knight Report. “I had a talk with coach (Greg) Schiano and I knew I had to make a decision as soon as possible. So I decided it was best for me to make a decision quick and wanted to do it before going to Temple this weekend. So I made my decision and let Temple know because I wanted to show respect and not do it to late.”

Wortman took an Official Visit to UMass this past weekend and was scheduled to visit Temple this upcoming weekend, but that was before Rutgers decided to offer him and not too long after that, he became part of the CHOP26 recruiting class.

As a senior at Colonia this past Fall, Wortman played both wide receiver and safety for the Patriots. However he’s open to playing wherever the Scarlet Knights need him at the next level.

“They are recruiting me as an athlete,” said Wortman. “They are just seeing what would be best for whatever they need and I’m willing to play wherever they want me.”

As for how Wortman performed this past season, he one of the best receivers in the state and also played a significant roles on defense and special teams too.
