Just recently, Phil Steele released his annual preseason All-Big Ten teams ahead of the 2025 college football season and it features several Rutgers Football players.

With that being said, let’s see what Scarlet Knights that Steele sees among the top of the Big Ten Conference for the 2025 season.

RUNNING BACK CJ CAMPBELL (FOURTH TEAM)

The Florida native began his career as a walk-on at Florida State and had a few spot carries by his third year with the Seminoles. Campbell would then go on to transfer to Florida Atlantic for the 2024 season and exploded for 844 yards and 11 touchdowns on 165 carries. He was also a pretty solid pass catcher out of the backfield, hauling in 40 receptions for 466 yards and four more scores.

Campbell joined the Rutgers Football program this spring and is expected to split carries with former four-star recruit Antwan Raymond, as the two should pack a solid 1-2 punch for the Scarlet Knights.

Alongside Campbell on the fourth team was Minnesota’s Darius Taylor

WIDE RECEIVER DT SHEFFIELD (FOURTH TEAM)

Another Transfer Portal addition to the Rutgers Football program this offseason, DT Sheffield is fresh off a huge year with North Texas, where he hauled in 66 catches for 822 receiving yards and a team-high 11 touchdowns.

Sheffield is projected to be the Scarlet Knights starting slot receiver this year, replacing now New York Jets wide receiver Dymere Miller

The Scarlet Knight was joined by USC’s Ja’Kobi Lane, and Michigan State’s Nick Marsh on the fourth team.

OFFENSIVE LINEMAN KWABENA ASAMOAH (FOURTH TEAM)

Only one Scarlet Knight offensive linemen made the All-Big Ten team and that was Kwabena “Kobe” Asamoah, who lands on the fourth team.

Asamoah was arguably the program’s second best linemen last season, according to PFF he only allowed 17 pressures on the year. This honor isn’t too shocking considering that both the coaches and the media had him listed as All-Big Ten Honorable Mention last season.

DEFENSIVE LINE ERIC O’NEILL (FOURTH TEAM)

Lather, rinse, repeat. Another Scarlet Knight makes Phil Steele’s Preseason All-Big Ten Fourth Team ahead of the 2025 season.

O’Neill is another transfer and was ranked among the best in the country when he entered the Transfer Portal. This past season with James Madison, O’Neill finished with 52 total tackles (24 solo), 19 tackles for loss, and one interception.

LINEBACKER DARIEL DJABOME (SECOND TEAM)

The Canada native has developed very nicely, specifically over the past year as he quietly went from an unknown to Rutgers Football’s top linebacker.

After some early season struggles, Djabome really came into his own, finishing with a team high 105 tackles (48 solo). Eight of those were tackles for loss and he also had 3.5 sacks and two forced fumbles as well. Expect an even better season for Djabome in 2025.
