Piscataway, NJ — Welcome back to game day, Rutgers Football fans! The Scarlet Knights will take the field later today when Norfolk State comes to town for the fifth ever game in the series.
“Overall, Norfolk State does a lot of football,” Head Coach Greg Schiano said on Monday. “What do I mean by that? They have a lot of offensive scheme, they have a lot of defensive scheme, and they do some things in the kicking game. Coach (Tory) Woodbury was at Howard last year, so we faced him. Coach (Brian) Sheppard, who’s the offensive coordinator, was out at Minnesota with PJ. He knows our defense and our style of play very, very well. He’s a very experienced coach. Then Coach Garvin, you look at what they’re doing on defense. We have our hands full with schematically the different types of blitzes they do and the coverages they do. There’s certainly a lot to work on here.”
Norfolk State’s Head Coach Michael Vick went in depth on the challenge of playing this year’s Scarlet Knights program.
“It’s a big stage,” Coach Vick said. “The goal is obviously to be able to perform on that big stage. For these guys, this is something that they will be able to look back on years from now and say I had the opportunity to go play against a Rutgers Football program that was a tough football team and we knew that coming in, but we went out there and played our tails off.””
