Rutgers Baseball has added yet another transfer portal piece, this time from the high-major ranks.

Former UCF outfielder Chase Krewson pledged his commitment to the Scarlet Knights on Sunday on social media. The former highly-touted recruit has two years of eligibility remaining, after one year with the Knights and his freshman year at Duke.

His commitment also represents a homecoming of sorts, as Krewson hails from Bridgeville, Pennsylvania, and attended South Fayette High School outside of Pittsburgh.

Krewson’s background

The Pennsylvania native appeared in 46 games in his true sophomore season at UCF – 40 starts – while primarily playing left field. He also started seven games at designated hitter.

With the Knights, Krewson slashed .279/.395/.329 (.724 OPS) in 170 plate appearances, drawing 24 walks and striking out 28 times. He also scored 27 runs while driving in 14 RBIs, along with four doubles and a home run. On the defensive side, the left-hander recorded 42 putouts and an assist in the outfield.

The highlight of Krewson’s season came against Kansas State in April, where he went 5-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs on five singles, and also added a walk. He also notched a nine-game hitting streak and a 15-game on-base streak during the season.

In his freshman year with the Blue Devils, Krewson started 35 of the 46 games he appeared in, getting off to a strong start in the ACC. His .331 batting average ranked third on the team among qualified batters, and his 32 strikeouts were the fewest among that same group.

Overall, he slashed .331/.417/.469 (.886 OPS) with five home runs as a true freshman for a Duke team that won the ACC and made the NCAA Tournament. Krewson also recorded a perfect fielding percentage, with 30 putouts and eight outfield assists.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder was a big-time recruit playing for the Lions in high school. He ranked as the top outfielder in Pennsylvania in the 2023 class and the fifth-ranked overall in the state. He earned Perfect Game All-America honors four times and was nationally ranked by Perfect Game four times as well.

Krewson on the field

A plus athlete, Krewson will likely compete for a starting outfield spot with the Scarlet Knights in 2026. At the 2023 Prep Baseball Report Super 60 Showcase, he stood out as one of the top performers, with the main takeaways reading:

“OF Chase Krewson (South Fayette HS, PA; Duke) steadily put together one of the day’s best overall performances. While he measured fast bat speed at 75.3 mph on average, he also generated the most rotational acceleration of the event (25.9g avg.) and recorded some of the best on-plane scores of the Super 60. Krewson also ran a 6.83 – 1.63 at the 10-yard split – and he averaged an exit speed of 94.7 mph, which was among the highest of the left-handed hitters.”

The bat speed and acceleration numbers from high school mean there may be more power underneath the hood to unlock, but as it stands, Krewson fits Rutgers’ style of play in the outfield as an athletic, high-contact floor option.

Off the field, Krewson is also on YouTube with the channel Common Club Golf, primarily centered around golf challenges with friends.

He will have two years of eligibility in the third stop of his collegiate career.
