Rutgers Basketball lands 2026 guard Imahri Wooten
Rutgers Basketball has landed their first commitment of the 2026 recruiting cycle and it’s Rivals150 guard Imahri Wooten out of New York.
The 6-foot-4, 180-pound guard spent the weekend with the Scarlet Knights coaching staff on an Official Visit to Piscataway back on September 12th, where he got a chance to learn more about the program.
Wooten hails from Troy, New York, but has bounced around a little bit throughout his high school basketball career. He played the 2023 season at Compass Prep down in Arizona, the 2024 season playing for Putnam Science Academy and is now back home playing at Redemption Christian Academy for the 2025-26 season.
Along with his high school ball, Wooten also plays for the City Rocks AAU team on the Nike EYBL circuit,. This past summer, he averaged 8.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game this summer according to Alejando Lopez and Sam Lance of ZagsBlog.
On top of it all, Wooten has some serious family ties to the college basketball world. Imahri’s mother (Michelle Massey-Wooten) and his aunt (Malani Massey), both played college ball for Syracuse, while his uncle (Kevin Simmons) played for UNLV.
In the end, the three-star recruit is ranked the No. 168 overall prospect and No. 7 overall combo guard in the 2026 cycle according to the Rivals Industry Ranking and chose the Scarlet Knights over 16 other offers from the likes of Auburn, Arizona State, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, Missouri, Penn State, Seton Hall, St. John’s, Virginia Tech, Wichita State, and several others.
