Rutgers EDGE Eric O'Neill named Top 100 player in College Football

ESPN revealed their annual list of the top 100 players in college football on Wednesday morning and one Rutgers Football player made the cut.
Newcomer and senior edge rusher Eric O’Neill came in at No. 84 overall on the Top 100 rankings list.
One of Rutgers’ biggest additions in the offseason, O’Neill comes from James Madison after a standout campaign with the Dukes. The 6-3, 255-pound end was a force to be reckoned with and set the pace for a stingy JMU defense that led the nation in turnover margins last year. – Paolo Uggetti

O’Neill joined the program this offseason via the Transfer Portal, after stints at both Long Island (2021-23) and James Madison (2024), where he appeared in 38 games and made 35 starts.
During that timespan, O’Neill totaled 185 tackles, 63 tackles for loss, 28.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and two interceptions. Out of those 28.5 sacks, 13.5 came last season with JMU as he was named a First Team Group of Five All-America by HERO Sports.
By adding O’Neill, another talented edge rusher in Ohio transfer Bradley Weaver and a Top 10 transfer portal class per On3, the Scarlet Knights are hoping that the revamped defense can bounce back from a not so pretty year in 2024.
