Rutgers Football lands commitment from 2026 Florida cornerback Jamareis Conyers

Rutgers Football has added yet another secondary piece to its 2026 recruiting class, heading down south to do so.
The Scarlet Knights landed a commitment from Florida-native cornerback Jamareis Conyers, becoming the second cornerback commit of the class, joining Virginia native Brandon Murray.
Conyers also becomes the 22nd commit of a class that nears the top 25 nationally in Rivals’ Industry Team Rankings. He chose Rutgers over a top four featuring Wake Forest, North Carolina, and North Carolina State.

Conyers’ background
The 6-foot-2, 170-pound cornerback hails from Riverview, Florida, and currently plays for Sumner High School outside of Tampa Bay, continuing the program’s tradition of identifying talent in the Sunshine State. He is the third Florida commit in the 2026 class, joining safety Sebastian Cruz and defensive lineman Reece Beck.
Conyers first earned his offer from the Scarlet Knights in March, before taking an unofficial visit a month later during the program’s spring practices. He later took his official visit during Rutgers’ first weekend hosting on May 30th. He did not commit while on the visit, and also took other official visits to Oregon State (May 9th), the Wolfpack (June 6th), the Demon Deacons (June 13th), and South Florida (June 20th).
While it appeared Wake Forest had an early edge in his recruitment, Rutgers stayed with Conyers throughout the process and ultimately won out. He becomes the 11th recruit from the initial visit weekend to have committed to the program, and the ninth currently committed.
Conyers On The Field
Conyers’ commitment also continues another trend in defensive back recruiting, emphasizing length and athleticism. Combining his height and basketball background, his build is one that Schiano and his staff have coveted in cornerbacks, relying on the ability to develop players at the position to give them a chance to succeed.
In his junior campaign for the Stingrays, Conyers recorded 38 tackles in 10 games, while breaking up eight passes and intercepting multiple others. He also returned four kickoffs for 66 yards and even caught a pass for 50 yards. He becomes the third Power Four commit from Sumner in the last four recruiting classes, joining current North Carolina defensive back Gregory Smith III (2024, originally committed to Florida) and Clemson safety Kylen Webb (2024).
On the field, Conyers’ physicality and athleticism stick out on tape. His long arms and speed allow him to be physical in press coverage and at the catch point, assisted by his strong ball skills to make plays. His ability to wrap around receivers to make tackles and break up passes is a natural fit in Schiano’s defense, in addition to his penchant for big-time hits, even pursuing an opponent from down the field.
By landing a commitment from Conyers, the Scarlet Knights add another toolsy defender with the physical traits to develop into a big-time contributor.
