One of The Knight Report’s weekly game preview pieces is our Throwback Thursday piece, where we compare the projected Rutgers Football starters as recruits to their team’s opponent each week.
With that being said, let’s compare the Scarlet Knights to the Minnesota Golden Gophers football team to see what they looked like and where they were ranked in high school.
In terms of high school rankings, both programs have their own highly ranked prospects at each position on the offensive side of the ball. Ironically Rutgers has the highly ranked quarterback and it’s former Minnesota gunslinger Athan Kaliakmanis, Minnesota has the edge at running back, Rutgers the edge at receiver and tight end, but Minnesota the edge on the offensive line.
Pretty comparable when you look up and down here, as both offenses have potential to do damage.
The Gophers defense boasts some very highly ranked prospects throughout, especially along the defensive line and one particular defensive back in Koi Perich, who does a little bit of everything for Minnesota.
However the Scarlet Knights do have some highly ranked prospects of their own, specifically at defensive back with Cam Miller at corner and Kaj Sanders at safety. Overall going based on the rankings here, the Gophers have the edge.
