Clemson head basketball coach Brad Brownell set his sights on one big for this high school recruiting class, and he got him.

Davidson (N.C.) Day four-star Will Stevens announced his commitment to Clemson on Saturday afternoon during a ceremony at his school.

Stevens (6-9, 200) is ranked the nation’s No. 95 overall prospect by Rivals as well as the top recruit in North Carolina.

He also held offers from Virginia, N.C. State, South Carolina, Texas Tech, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Virginia Tech, Iowa, West Virginia, Creighton, VCU, Davidson, Charleston and George Mason among others.

Stevens entered the fall with official visits set to Clemson, Vanderbilt and South Carolina, with Davidson and St. Mary’s hovering on the periphery.

Clemson attracted him first for a late August weekend in conjunction with the LSU football opener. Vanderbilt got him at the end of September for its Utah State football game, and his South Carolina official was cancelled.

Thus it came down to two.

Brownell and staff have made a living developing stretch bigs with his skill set, and that logically factored prominently in the final verdict.

As a junior, Stevens averaged 12 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game.

Clemson signed four high-schoolers to go with its six transfers this past offseason.
