As we foreshadowed, Stancil (6-3, 260) — ranked No. 120 nationally by Rivals — informed the Tigers on Tuesday evening that he was decommitting.

That was an unforeseen development for Clemson as well as an untimely one, with it coming just a day after College Park (Ga.) Woodward Academy safety commitment Blake Stewart backed off the commitment list as well.

The Tigers have now lost three commitments in little more than a month’s time, kicked off by Buford (Ga.) defensive end Dre Quinn in late September.

Stancil picked Clemson in late June after also taking official visits to Georgia, Miami, Penn State and N.C. State.

The Hurricanes were believed to have finished as runners-up.

Clemson is now down to 20 commitments for the class.

Stancil stood as the third-highest ranked prospect on Clemson’s commitment list behind Jacksonville (Fla.) Bolles School four-star receiver Naeem Burroughs and Roebuck (S.C.) Dorman four-star safety Kentavion Anderson.

This has the Tigers working overtime to prevent further snowball effect.

Per our info, it’s too early to know whether Stancil’s subtraction compels Clemson to add a defensive tackle to its transfer portal wish list.
