Clemson has prevailed for its coveted versatile piece in the secondary.

College Park (Ga.) Woodward Academy four-star defensive back Blake Stewart announced his commitment to Clemson Sunday evening.

“They have DBs get drafted in the first round every year,” Stewart told Tigerillustrated.com this past week. “It’s just the scheme they have for me. I like the defense that (defensive coordinator Tom Allen) does. It’s built for safeties and the way I play. I could be used a lot of ways in this defense.”

Stewart (6-1, 175), tabbed No. 315 nationally in the Rivals Industry rankings, picked the Tigers over finalists Michigan, Miami and Vanderbilt.

Georgia, Texas, Florida State, Texas A&M, Auburn, Florida, UNC and Georgia Tech were also among his offers.

Clemson brought Stewart in for his first visit to see its game against Louisville in early November. An offer then materialized in mid-January.

He returned for the program’s Elite Retreat in March.

The Tigers already have a pair of safety commitments in Roebuck (S.C.) Dorman four-star Kentavion Anderson and Lewis Center (Ohio) Olentangy four-star Kaden Gebhardt.

Stewart delivers something different to the table, though, as a coverage defensive back who could be utilized at free safety, nickel or even corner.

This one came down to Clemson, Miami and Michigan.

Michigan made a run with a strong official visit showing to close, while Miami circled the wagons and attempted one last push over these final weeks.

But Clemson closed it out.

Stewart becomes the 21st commitment for the Tigers’ recruiting class.
