CLEMSON — Ian Schieffelin says his DUI charge has been dismissed by the City of Clemson Police Department, according to an email sent to Tigerillustrated.com by his legal representation.

Schieffelin’s statement reads as follows:

“On Sunday, August 17, 2025, I was charged by the City of Clemson Police Department with Driving Under the Influence (DUI). After all the evidence was reviewed, the DUI charge has been dismissed by the City of Clemson Police Department and I accepted a traffic ticket for Reckless Driving.

“As part of the resolution of this matter, I will not be allowed to play in the home opener against LSU. I am determined to learn from this experience and move forward with renewed focus.

“I fully understand the responsibility that comes with being a student athlete at Clemson, and I remain committed to conducting myself in a manner that reflects positively on the university, my teammates, the athletic department, and myself. I also want to emphasize my continued respect for law enforcement and the City of Clemson Police Department.

“I have learned a valuable lesson from this experience and my commitment is to grow from this, and to represent Clemson with the integrity and character it deserves.”

Schieffelin was arrested on suspicion of DUI early on the morning of Aug. 17 after he was pulled over at 1:37 AM in Clemson.

According to the incident report, an officer was patrolling along Hwy. 123 towards Seneca when he noticed a vehicle rapidly approaching from behind. He also noted that the vehicle swerve over a double-yellow line.

The officer then moved to the median, allowed the vehicle to pass, and then conducted a traffic stop.

Schieffelin was arrested for DUI after he refused a breathalyzer test.

Soon after the arrest, Dabo Swinney released the following statement:

“We are aware of Ian Schieffelin’s arrest on suspicion of DUI. Clemson Athletics has a clear policy by which we will abide, so Ian will miss some competition to start this season as a consequence. We’re obviously very disappointed by the situation, but we are very thankful no others were involved and no one was hurt.”

Schieffelin became a basketball star over his four years playing for Brad Brownell. He stuck around in Clemson to play football at the urging of Swinney, and he recently went through preseason camp with the Tigers as a tight end and special-teams contributor.

On Monday morning, Clemson city police chief Jorge Campos told Tigerillustrated.com that Schieffelin’s representation had filed for a jury trial. But our latest information indicates it won’t get that far.
