Memphis head coach Ryan Silverfield gave a big update on the roster today at the first day of fall camp. Running back Sutton Smith has been given the green light to be a full go in preseason camp.

Smith suffered a season-ending right knee injury during the game against North Alabama last season. The injury occurred in the first quarter, and he was seen with a knee brace and crutches.

Coming out of Marietta (GA), he was a 3-star prospect at Walton High School. He chose Memphis over Houston, Louisville, Tulane, Pitt, Purdue, among others.

There was high expectations for Smith to be the next great Memphis running back. He has that skill set and talent to be great and now that’s he’s healthy…watch out. He should be and expected to be the focal point of this offense in the running game.
