With 37 days left in the UteNation Countdown to Kickoff Series, today we discuss no. 37, Trey Reynolds. The junior linebacker played in all 12 games for Utah in the 2024 season, seeing action on both the defense and special teams to earn CSC Academic All-District honors. After serving a two-year LDS mission, Reynolds made good use of last season to shake off his missionary rust.

UteNation Take

Reynolds most likely battles for rotational snaps behind Lander Barton, Levani Damuni, and safety-turned-linebacker Johnathan Hall. However, Reynolds saw action in all 14 games his freshman season in 2021 pre-mission, so he should continue to be a key player in the two-deep. The Queen Creek, AZ-native should see playing time in some form again this season, but his experience and knowledge within the system will make him a key asset in the linebacker room this season. If he gets extended action at one point, it could be difficult to keep Reynolds off of the field.

Remembering Reynolds’ Recruitment

The first commitment of the Utes’ 2021 class, Reynolds had over 25 schools offer him a scholarship, such as Oregon, Washington, Wisconsin, Michigan State, and Oklahoma State, to name a few. He was a three-star linebacker that flew under the radar in Arizona, Ultimately, his decision to pick Utah came down to the relationships with the coaching staff and his ideal fit with their defensive mentality.
