2025 VHSL Class 5 All-State Football Teams

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The Virginia High School League announces its 2025 Class 5 All-State Football Team. Maury sophomore quarterback Dominick Everette is the Class 5 Offensive Player of the Year, and Maury senior linebacker Isaiah Simmons is the Class 5 Defensive Player of the Year. Maury Head Coach Dyrri McCain is the Class 5 Coach of the Year.
The 6’2”, 170-pound Everette posted historic numbers as a sophomore. He produced 4,047 total yards and 58 total touchdowns while leading the state’s #1 offense with a 50.4 points per game average. His offensive numbers included 3,513 yards passing (213 comp./295 atts), 46 passing TD’s, and 8 interceptions. He had 533 rushing yards on 57 attempts and 11 rushing touchdowns.
Everette shined the brightest in big games. During the Commodores’ playoff run, he passed for 17 touchdowns and only two interceptions. In the regular season, he threw the game-winning touchdown to knock off Class 4 state champion Varina. Against national power Bishop McNamara, he accounted for four total touchdowns, with three coming in the fourth quarter and overtime. Against Class 3 State champion Lake Taylor, he again posted a brilliant performance with over 300 total yards and four touchdowns. And against Warwick in the region semifinals, he produced five total touchdowns and 42 points.

The ultimate disrupter from his linebacker position, the 6’1”, 210-pound Simmons tallied 109 tackles, 40 tackles for loss, 27 sacks, and recorded a safety. He earned back-to-back First Team All-State selections and was twice selected to the All-State Second team as a freshman and sophomore.
Simmons was a four-time First Team All-Eastern District and All-Region 5B selection, as well as a district and region Player of the Year. One of the nation’s outstanding linebackers in the Class of 26, the 4-star linebacker signed with the University of Pittsburgh on National Signing Day. In addition to his athletic ability, Simmons boasts a 3.5 GPA.
A four-time Class 5 Coach of the Year, McCain led Maury to a 14-1 record and a three-peat with a 26-7 win over Highland Springs in the state finals played at James Madison University’s Bridgeforth Stadium. In nine seasons leading the Commodores, McCain has a 102-15 record with seven state final appearances, three undefeated state championship teams (2019, 2023, 2024), and eight straight regional championships.
During his nine years at Maury, McCain’s program has produced over 100 All-State players, eight State Player of the Year’s, and 18 region POY’s. He is a seven-time District Coach of the Year and an eight-time Region COY.
The All-State Football Team consists of 32 players (Offense: one quarterback; four linemen; one center; three running backs; three receivers; one tight end; one kicker; one kick returner; one all-purpose offensive player; Defense: four defensive linemen; five linebackers; four defensive backs; one punter; one punt returner; one all-purpose defensive player).
Only those players selected to the All-Region First Team are eligible for selection to the All-State Team. The All-State selection committee comprises eight coaches, with two from each region.
