2025 VHSL Class 6 All-State Football Teams

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The Virginia High School League announces its 2025 Class 6 All-State Football Team. Oscar Smith senior wide receiver Travis Johnson is the Class 6 Offensive Player of the Year, and North Stafford senior linebacker Lyndon Lawrence is the Class 6 Defensive Player of the Year. Oscar Smith Head Coach Chris Scott is the Class 6 Coach of the Year.

A First Team All-State selection for the second straight year, the 6’3”, 185-pound Johnson caught 56 passes for 1,157 yards and 15 touchdowns. In this year’s state title win over North Stafford, the University of Michigan signee caught three passes for 68, including 58 yards after the catch and two touchdowns. Over the past two seasons, the nation’s 112th-ranked player by Rivals and On3, Johnson has caught 119 passes for 2,210 yards, averaging 18.6 yards per catch, and 32 touchdown receptions.

The 6’0”, 190-pound Lawrence tallied 97 tackles, 30 sacks, and 23 tackles for loss this season, helping North Stafford reach its first state title game appearance since 2004.  He also contributed 4 recovered fumbles, 2 fumbles returned for TDs, 2 PBU, 1 blocked punt returned for TD, and 4 forced fumbles. 

A high character student-athlete, Lawrence earned First Team selections and defensive POY honors from Region 6B and the Commonwealth District. He remains uncommitted with opportunities from Virginia State and Christopher Newport University, among others.

Head Coach Chris Scott led Oscar Smith to a 13-1 season, back-to-back state titles and a fourth state title under his guidance (2020, 2021, 2024, 2025) with a 44-0 win over North Stafford in the Class 6 Finals at James Madison University’s Bridgeforth Stadium. Since Scott took over the program in 2019, his teams have made six State Championship game appearances. His seven seasons have produced an 80-10 overall record, and along with the four state titles, his 2019 squad finished Class 6 runner-up with a 13-2 record.

Overall, Scott owns a 197-32 career record, including an 99-11-1 mark at Ocean Lakes from 2008 to 2015, which also produced two State Championship game appearances and a 2014 state title. He spent three seasons at non-VHSL member school Bishop Sullivan from 2016-18 (18-11 overall). Scott’s program has put over 250 student-athletes into college at all levels.

The All-State Football Team consists of 32 players  (Offense: one quarterback; four linemen; one center; three running backs; three receivers; one tight end; one kicker; one kick returner; one all-purpose offensive player; Defense: four defensive linemen; five linebackers; four defensive backs; one punter; one punt returner; one all-purpose defensive player).

Only those players selected to the All-Region First Team are eligible for selection to the All-State Team. The All-State selection committee comprises eight coaches, with two from each region.
