Benedictine came back from a 14-0 halftime deficit to knock off the top-ranked team in DC Gonzaga by a score of 21-14. The Cadets scored the game’s final 21 points, including the game winner, with a minute to go.

As has been the case this season, the Cadets’ defense made big plays, scoring on a pick-six, a safety, and a blocked field goal. Their first touchdown was on a pick-six by Theo Gwyer.

Malachi Mingo returned a block kick for a touchdown that tied the score at 14-14 with 5:13 left in the game.

After a Sean Boyd sack, the Cadets stopped a 4th down punt and took over at the Gonzaga 22-yard line. Fred Dolan, who was recently named to my Private Schools Mid-season team, gave Benedictine the lead with a 5-yard touchdown run that gave the Cadets a 21-14 lead with under a minute to go.

Benedictine is the #1-ranked team in my Private School rankings, and they moved to #2 in the Massey rankings after the win, passing both Dinwiddie and Oscar Smith. Gonzaga had defeated Oscar Smith in the season opener.
