Essex ran for over 325 yards on the ground, and the Essex defense kept Rappahannock off the scoreboard in a 22-0 win. The Trojans improved to 7-0 on the season. It was the 2nd straight road shutout win for the Trojans, who defeated Rappahannock 41-0 in the playoffs on their way to a state championship. Essex has won 16 straight since losing to Rappahannock in the regular season last year.

Senior Jaden Holmes had two rushing touchdowns, and sophomore Demetrius Stewart added a 3rd for the Trojans, who had no completed passes.

Holmes scored from 2 yards out on the Trojans’ 1st possession after 1 12-play drive.

The next drive for Essex also ended with a touchdown, this time from Stewart from six yards out for a 14-0 halftime lead.

Holmes scored his 2nd touchdown from 28 yards out with 7:20 remaining in the 4th quarter. An interception by senior Xzayviia Bundy pretty much sealed the win for Essex.

I heard one Rappahannock mom say, “They run the same play every time and we can’t stop it!”
