Falcons Soar To 4B Final Shutting Down Louisa 34-11!

The experience of Louisa is one every high school football fan should treat themselves too. I am not quite sure what I was more blown away by. The message from John Gruden on the jumbotron? The jumbotron itself? The Lion that breathes fire? The giant Lion the team comes out from under? The entertainment of the jumbotron from start to finish of the game including halftime? The fireworks? The helicopter delivering the game ball?
The atmosphere felt more like a D2 or D3 college football game than a high school regional semifinal matchup. It was next level to say the least.
Huguenot took a an hour long road trip northwest Saturday afternoon to the ‘Jungle’ attempting to get past the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 1998. Mission accomplished! The Lions atmosphere is undefeated, the same cannot be said for the Louisa football program whose season came to a screeching halt.
Like the other Region 4B semifinal, this game failed to deliver on the hype. The Falcons defense largely kept the Lions offense in check much of the day, in particular Savion Hiter who finished the day with 71 yards off 22 carries! Coming into the game Hiter was averaging 104.5 yards a game and 1.6 tackles per game. On this day, Hiter was kept out of the end zone.
The Falcons offense? They found the end zone five times! Unlike the Lions, Huguenot had no trouble moving the ball as they amassed 273 yards of offense!
You could look at the outcome of this game in several ways. Frankly the simplest way is that Huguenot had more stud athletes than Louisa. You could say the whole was greater than the sum of the parts. One could also wonder if Louisa’s schedule did not toughen them for a matchup of this caliber.
Regardless of how you view the game, Huguenot made a statement blocking out the noise (atmosphere) and taking care of business as they had the previous 10 games.
1st Quarter Highs & Lows
For Louisa there were no highs in the first quarter. In total the Lions offense had just 7 yards of offense off two possessions.
The Lions defense had more plays than the offense in the first quarter. There was the Isaiah Wright sack and the Xzavion Johnson PBU. In the end, however, the Falcons had a 14-0 lead scoring on 2 of their 3 possessions.
Huguenot’s first TD of the day came from Charles Scott, Jr., not by his arm but by his legs.
The Falcons second TD of the day finished off a 66-yard drive. A drive that survived a Cartier Canady slip on a field that was slippery at times, particularly in the first half. The drive survived a fumble that Iveon Lewis recovered and still managed to move the ball forward for 6 yards. On the very next play Lewis himself slipped.
Two Louisa miscues helped out the Falcons on their second scoring drive of the quarter. One would be an offsides, the other more damaging in a pass interference on 3rd & 5. Two plays later Huguenot was in for the score with Iveon Lewis on the receiving end of the first of three Charles Scott, Jr. touchdown passes.
2nd Quarter Highs & Lows
The second quarter featured Louisa making strides on offense but nothing to show for other than three points at the half.
The Lions first extended stay drive was over 30 yards and the Lions had crossed into the Falcons side of the ball. Christopher Green was the thorn in what was an optimum drive when he intercepted Levi Wilson.
The second quarter was more about Louisa than Huguenot. Huguenot had the ball just once in the second quarter, sandwiched between two Lions drives. Speaking of sandwiches, Isaiah Wright sandwiched Charles Scott, Jr. with a sack.
The Lions drove the ball 54 yards to the Huguenot 12 thanks to two roughing the passer calls against the Falcons. Louisa did not have a lot of time to make something happen. An incomplete pass left 15 seconds on the clock, long enough for a QB keeper of 4 yards. That is when Huguenot had to settle for points rather than a TD with a 25-yard field goal to make it a 14-3 game at the half.
3rd Quarter Highs & Lows
The momentum pendulum swung in the third quarter from the second quarter. For Louisa, it resembled a cross between the first and second quarter and for the Falcons it was a mirror image of the first quarter.
The Lions had momentum early on moving the ball but the Falcons defense stepped up and sent them backwards. That same defensive effort forced a turnover on downs when Louisa went for it on fourth down.
Meanwhile Huguenot put together a 51-yard drive that Markel Dabney finished off when he caught a 38-yard pass from his QB.
This drive, however, was marred by three penalties, two of those unsportsmanlike penalties.
The second score for the Falcons was courtesy of Cartier Canady from 21 yards out. The Falcons had a short field to work with thanks to the Lions inability to convert their fourth down.
4th Quarter Highs & Lows
Then there was the fourth quarter… a quarter that felt like might never end.
Louisa had the ball three times and it was a roller coaster for the Lions. To start the fourth quarter the Lions were the benefactor of a pass interference call against Huguenot. As the game wore on and frustration set in for Louisa, so too did the swagger of Huguenot. The rising temps on this Autumn afternoon illiciited a meeting at midfield between the players and the officials to corral things before they got out of hand.
Then Huguenot’s defense made play after play. The very same Christopher Green who intercepted Levi Wilson earlier broke up a pass as did Ziggy Miller. While the Falcons would take on a second pass interference call, in the end Ziggy interfered with a pass when he intercepted the Lions in the end zone.
The next hill on this fourth quarter roller coaster for the Lions came when they recovered a loose ball courtesy of Huguenot. The Lions took advantage of the opportunity before them with a 29-yard drive that saw the Lions in the end zone for the first time. While Savion Hiter would tag the end zone, it would be on a 2-pt conversion, not the TD. The TD came by way of Trell Creasy.
One more dip for this roller coaster was a high for the Falcons who put together a 77-yard scoring drive in response to the Lions first TD of the day. That drive had the exclamation point put on it when Charles Scott, Jr. delivered his third TD pass of the day hitting Malik Porter for a 52-yard score.
Ironically enough 52 yards would be what Louisa would amass on their last posession of the game. A comeback was out of the realm of possibilities and time was not on their side for another score.
The Lions would suffer their first loss, a loss that would end their season and the high school career of Savion Hiter. Meanwhile, Huguenot is headed for a region final at their house hoping the third time is a charm to beat a team they have lost to in back-to-back seasons… Varina.

Charles Scott, Jr. (2028 QB) had himself a day at the office thrashing the Lions defense. Scott delivered 13 of his 16 passes to the tune of 284 yards and 3 TD’s. The very first score of the day came in the most unsuspecting manner, a rushing touchdown. Scott took a couple of sacks but he was poised and potent for the better part of the afternoon.

Cartier Canady (2026 LB/RB) had a solid day on both sides of the ball. Canady led the ground game with 71 yards and a score on 9 carries. On defense he was just out there getting his hands on as many Lions as he could taking them down 5 times for tackles.
Zayvon ‘Ziggy’ Miller (2027 FS) was menacing, a player the Lions hope they don’t see again. Ziggy not only had 7 tackles on the Lions but he broke up a pass and picked off Levi Wilson once. Miller had an outstanding game on defense.

Markel Dabney (2026 MLB/RB) the Michigan commit affected the game on both sides of the ball. On offense caught 3 passes for 52 yards including a 32-yard touchdown. On defense Dabney got to the Lions 5 times making for a tough day for Louisa.
