LIVE Game Blog - Meadowbrook Blanks Kecoughtan 41-0

Postgame Video Interview with Meadowbrook Coach Billy Rudd:
9:40 PM ET:
Final in VHSL Football – Meadowbrook 41, Kecoughtan 0
Monarchs improve to 2-0 overall for the first time since 2011. They pitch consecuive shutouts for the first time in 10 years.
9:25 PM ET :
End 3rdQ – Meadowbrook 34, Kecoughtan 0
Meadowbrook has out-gained Kecoughtan 400-61 in total yards so far tonight.
9:21 PM ET:
I do want to add that the Meadowbrook kicker is NOT going to receive a Christmas card from me for missing that PAT. Meanwhile, a quick ran shower falls here at Darling Stadium.
9:17 PM ET:
Kecoughtan goes 4 & out and Meadowbrook takes over at the Warriors 40 with 2:26 remaining in the third period, needing just one more touchdown with a successful extra point to bring on the running clock.
Give props to Andrew Lewter tonight as he’s been a force on defense with three stops for loss and Kecoughtan has yet to figure out to get him blocked.
Dashod Singleton runs it forward for about three or four yards. Shortly thereafter, it’s Tyshaun Jackson breaking off a 30-yard run right up the middle to put the Monarchs inside the 10.
9:05 PM ET:
Kecoughtan gets a 15-yard completion from Ziyon Phillips to Class of 2028 athlete Braden Stephens into Meadowbrook territory at the 45. However, the Warriors have had a difficult time establishing the run and find themselves in a 4th & 8 situation where they are able to convert, giving it right back to the Monarchs. Andrew Lewter had his second tackle for loss of the night on the third down play prior.
A 5-play, 57-yard scoring drive from Meadowbrook is capped by Michael Wesley for his second rushing touchdown of the night. Wesley weaves his way to the end zone off a counter play and carried defenders with him for about the final 6-7 yards of his trot.
8:50 PM ET:
Just learned the correct spelling of the Meadowbrook QB is actually Deshaun Chisem – not the way I was spelling it earlier. Hey, good to know.
Chisem and company have the ball now after a 3 & out to start the half for Kecoughtan. A completion to Anthony Broadie for 12 and one to Kaden Jones for 14 has the Monarchs at the Kecoughtan 36. The more Meadowbrook can increase the tempo, the better their chances are to finish this drive off with points and gain further separation.
8:35 PM ET:
Stats at the Half:
Meadowbrook 14:

8:22 PM ET:
Although Meadowbrook moves the chains on 3rd & 3 with Tyshaun Jackson trucking a Kecoughtan defender on his way to an 11-yard gain, the Monarchs see their drive fizzle out and they have to punt it away.
Senior defenders Jakaai Spruill and William Hawkins from their defensive line and linebacker positions, respectively, continue to give Kecoughtan issues. They combine to make consecutive tackles for loss, bringing up 3rd & 16 for the Warriors. While QB Ziyon Phillips completes a 13-yard pass to Josiah Richardson, Head Coach Zecharie James is not tempted to go for it on 4th & 3 from his own 35. They punt it away.
Meadowbrook has it at their own 47 with 1:00 even on the clock. They go to work with QB Deshawn Chisom scrambles for eight yards, then connects with senior Kaneyn Wronge for 15 yards through the air. Kaden Jones gets out of bounds for a catch of seven. Another catch of seven yards by Dashod Singleton puts them in field goal range with 3 seconds left before the half, at the KHS 16.
8:08 PM ET:
Meadowbrook senior linebacker William Hawkins strips Kecoughtan freshman QB Ziyon Phillips and it appears that the Monarchs are going to recover the fumble, but the officials say possession will remain with the Warriors.
Senior DB Azarian Haskins sacks Phillips on 3rd & 3, but a personal foul penalty on Meadowbrook will give Kecoughtan an automatic first down. The main story in this one is Kecoughtan’s inability to block the Monarchs sending mutliple blitzers from all angles. Hawkins gets himself a sack and the Warriors are forced to punt it away again.
Another penalty on Meadowbrook – their 9th for 90 yards on the night – means they have this latest series at their own 15, wiping out a pretty nice punt return from Dashod Singleton.
7:55 PM ET:
Decorey Cassell makes one of the first really fine tackles of the night for Kecoughtan, at least since the game’s opening possession. A holding penalty on the Monarchs, followed by a pass being batted down at the line of scrimmage brings up 3rd & 14. That pass is completed by Deshaun Chishom, well short of the first down.
Meadowbrook boots it away 49 yards on the punt. Kecoughtan has it at hteir own 28 with 9:10 to go in the first half. Before Kecoughtan snaps it, the Monarchs used their final time-out. Both teams are out of time outs now. until the second half.
7:45 PM ET:
Michael Wesley’s 4-yard TD run extends the Monarchs lead to double-figures.
Meanwhile, Kecoughtan has it at their own 45 for their third series of the night. Freshman Ziyon Phillips is now operating at QB and he’s showing some poise under pressure with four consecutive completions, two of which went to Jordan House, a tenth-grader that earlier took snaps from center. House’s catch on 3rd & 7 moves the chains into Meadowbrook territory.
However, a stop behind the line of scrimmage by Meadowbrook’s defense and back-to-back incomplete tosses, where Phillips was under heavy pressure, translates to another punt by the Warriors. It goes out of bounds with 31 seconds to go in a first quarter that ranks up with some of the longest in VHSL football history.
Meadowbrook will take over at their own 12, leading 14-0.
7:35 PM ET:
Meadowbrook begins its third offensive series at their own 35 and they are on the move. Senior Dashod Singleton rumbles for eight yards, then it’s junior Tyshaun Jackson moving the sticks on 2nd & 2 for 16 into Kecoughtan territory at the 41. That’s where Kaden Jones thought he had his second TD catch of the night on a screen pass that was well-executed… but… a holding penalty backs them up to their own 49.
Two plays later, Jones catches a pass near the Kecoughtan sideline, then reverses his field and the Warriors are all out of sorts defensively. It’s a house call for 51 yards this time, but an unnecessary block in the back penalty on his teammate will place the ball at the KHS 15.
So two quick takeaways:
– Kaden Jones is dynamic
– We’re on track for about 20+ penalties on each side with a total of nine thus far in less than 9 full minutes of action (not all accepted either)
7:25 PM ET:
A penalty on the ensuing kickoff return by Kecoughtan will push them back 10 yards to their own 20 with 6:17 showing on the opening period clock.
Sophomore Jordan House completes a nice 23-yard pass to Eric Tatum, one of the key members from the basketball team for Kecoughtan. So the Warriors move the sticks and get closer to midfield. Penalties are starting to mount up for Kecoughtan, though.
An inadvertent whistle allows Kecoughtan to replay 3rd & 16 from their own 37, but the pressure coming from Meadowbrook’s defense is too much for House to get his second completion of the night as they flush him out to his left to throw it away off balanced.
7:15 PM ET:
Kecoughtan’s first possession gets extended by penatly, but they are unable to get any closer than the Meadowbrook 40 as the Monarchs force them to punt it away.
The Monarchs second series starts at their own 12, where a couple of sophomores team up for a tremendous, highlight-reel play. It’s QB Deshaun Chisom lofting the ball over top of the corner, who gets turned inside and out, beaten soundly by wide receiver Kaden Jones for an 88-yard scoring bomb.
7:05 PM ET:
Meadowbrook goes 3 & out on its first series after returning the opening kickoff 19 yards to their own 32. Riley Griffin makes a tackle for loss for the Kecoughtan defense, which also got solid stops from Josiah Richardson and Oscar Smith transfer Decorey Cassell on that possession.
A 26-yard punt results in Kecoughtan taking over at their own 37 with 10:38 left in the opening period.
William Hawkins and Cayden Thompson combine for a tackle for loss on James Vinnie on the first play from scrimmage for Kecoughtan. The next play is Andrew Lewter’s turn to make a stop behind the line of scrimmage. Vinnie gains 11 on 3rd & long, where there is a penalty on the Warriors, but Meadowbrook declines it so that they punt it away.
However, the visiting Monarchs don’t help themselves with a 15-yard roughing the punter penalty. That gives Kecoughtan a fresh set of downs at the MBK 40.
