Oscar Smith Wins 2nd Straight Class 6 Title

Oscar Smith defeated North Stafford 44-0 to win their 2nd straight Class 6 State championship.

It was a dominant performance for the Tigers, who won their sixth VHSL Football Championship in school history and their fourth at Smith, with Coach Chris Scott.

Rivals 4-star Travis Johnson caught two touchdown passes, and Tyjae Curtis ran for 108 yards while scoring two touchdowns for the offense.

Also, the defense recorded a shutout with three sacks and a pick.

It was a turnover that led to the 1st touchdown. Oscar Smith recovered a fumbled punt on the 1st series of the game, and Curtis scored from 11 yards out with 7:02 to go in the 1st quarter for a 7-0 lead.

Reginald Wallace completed a 5-play 58-yard scoring drive with 20 seconds remaining in the 1st quarter that made the score 13-0.

Oscar Smith added two more touchdowns in the final two minutes of the 1st half.

Curtis ended an 8-play, 79-yard drive with a 4-yard touchdown run, and Rivals 3-star Lonnie Andrews connected with Travis Johnson for 30 yards to give Oscar Smith a 25-0 lead at halftime.

2nd Half

Oscar Smith extended the lead to 31-0 to open the 3rd quarter on a blocked punt by senior Brandon Church, who returned the ball for a touchdown.

An interception set up a touchdown pass from Andrews to Quali Price. The score put the game on a running clock with six minutes to go in the 3rd quarter.

Travis Johnson and Andrews connected once again for 30 yards on a wide-open completion for a 44-0 lead.

North Stafford had its best scoring opportunity midway through the 4th quarter. Kaden Bowers made a couple of nice gains, and Oscar Smith committed a couple of penalties to give North Stafford a 1st down at the 5-yard line.

However, sophomore James Salmon sacked quarterback Chase Sullivan for an 8-yard loss, and the Tigers defended two pass attempts, resulting in a turnover on downs.
