The playoffs are a month away, and here are my predictions for the VISAA playoffs for D1 and DII. The VISAA uses a committee to select the teams from a pool of six teams based on a points criterion. Any of the six eligible teams can be selected for the 4-team playoffs. The final selection and seeding are based solely on the committee’s recommendations.

VISAA Division I

I believe three of the Richmond schools will earn the top three spots, with the winner of the Benedictine/Trinity Episcopal game earning the top seed. Both Benedictine and Trinity Episcopal are 6-0. I believe St. Christopher’s will earn the #3 seed. The final spot could come down to the matchup between Collegiate and Norfolk Academy. Collegiate has already defeated the Potomac School, and a win by Collegiate against Norfolk Academy may result in an all Richmond city playoffs.

Note: Episcopal and Woodberry Forest play in “The Game” every year in November and do not qualify for the VISAA title. Several Northern Schools compete in the WCAC playoffs for a conference championship instead of a State title

VISAA Division II

North Cross appears to be the clear top seed, and they would likely qualify for the D1 playoffs based on their schedule. After St. Anne’s-Belfield’s big win over the defending champion Blue Ridge, I would give the #2 seed to the Saints. Fredericksburg Christian is 5-1 and has a win over Atlantic Shores. They have remaining games against Blue Ridge and home against Nansemond-Suffolk Academy on October 25. Two wins there probably earn them the #3 seed.

I believe Blue Ridge would have to win out after 128 points in the last two games to earn a chance to defend their title. Nansemond-Suffolk Academy is 5-2 and can control its fate with the remaining games against St. Anne’s-Belfield and Fredericksburg Christian. They have a rivalry game against Norfolk Academy on Friday.

Atlantic Shores has lost to both Nansemond-Suffolk Academy and Fredericksburg Christian, which dampens their resume for a final playoff spot. Still, they have games against St. Anne’s-Belfield and Blue Ridge, so anything is possible. While Christchurch is 4-0, this is their 1st year back after competing in 8-man football. They have not played any of the top teams competing for a playoff position.
