Trinity Episcopal and Benedictine meet again for VISAA State title

Benedictine defeated St. Christopher’s 34-14, and Trinity Episcopal defeated Norfolk Academy 55-7, sending both teams to the VISAA State title game. It will be the 4th time in five years that the teams have played for the state championship.

Deuce Mason returned the opening kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown as Trinity Episcopal advanced to the State title with a 55-7 semi-final win over Norfolk Academy.

Mason Love set up the Titans’ 2nd touchdown with an interception that led to a short touchdown run from Deacon Skogen.

Rivals 4-star Davion Brown had a 67-yard punt return that made it 21-0 in the 1st quarter, and he added a 21-yard touchdown reception.

The Titans’ two running backs each had a touchdown run, with Carson Parks scoring from 8 yards and C.j Gray running 68 yards for a touchdown. Gray finished with 116 yards on eight carries. Skogen was 7 of 11 for 89 yards and two touchdowns.

Benedictine 34 St. Christopher’s 14

Benedictine scored two touchdowns just before the end of the 1st quarter and defeated St. Christopher’s for the 2nd time this season with a 34-14 win.

Four different Cadets scored touchdowns, and the special teams contributed 13 points, as the Cadets head to the state championship looking for a 3-peat.

Senior quarterback Carson Lambert had a touchdown pass and a touchdown run for Benedictine, which needed only 223 total yards to get the win. Lambert tied Fred Dolan with 41 yards rushing to lead the team.

The Cadets’ defense recorded four sacks and two interceptions. The Saints gained 92 of their 198 yards on a 92-yard touchdown pass from Chase Roberts to J.J. Tidwell. Defensive tackle Sean Boyd had four tackles, including two sacks, while cornerback Joshua Moore blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown.
