VISAA Playoff Brackets

The VISAA playoffs start next week, and the semi-final matchups have been posted.
DI Matchups
In D1, the #1 seed, Trinity Episcopal, will host Norfolk Academy, while the other semifinal match will feature #3 St. Christopher’s against #2 Benedictine.
Trinity Episcopal defeated Benedictine 26-21 to earn the top seed with an 8-1 record. The Titans won back-to-back State titles in 2021 & 2022, and finished runner-up in 2023. Norfolk Academy is making its 1st playoff appearance since losing to Flint Hill in 2018. Norfolk Academy finished the season 8-1, with their only loss coming against St. Christopher’s.

Benedictine (9-1) reached the State title game last year as the #2 seed and won its 2nd straight championship, defeating St. Michael’s. The Cadets defeated Trinity Episcopal for the title in 2023. Kurt Von Bargen is the Benedictine Head Coach, taking over for Greg Lilly, who was the head coach for 16 years and won five State titles.
St. Christopher’s earned the #3 seed after wins over both Trinity Episcopal and Norfolk Academy. The Saints lost to Benedictine during the regular season. Last year, St. Christopher’s was the #4 seed, losing to St. Michael’s. The Saints’ last championship game appearance was against Benedictine in 2021.

DII matchups
DII will have a new State VISAA champion after Blue Ridge failed to make the playoffs. Last year’s runner-up, North Cross, earned the top seed and will host Atlantic Shores. The Raiders defeated Atlantic Shores Christian in 2022 for the first of back-to-back State titles. North Cross has appeared in every State championship game since 2018. Atlantic Shores won the State title in 2021 under Head Coach Wayne Lance, defeating North Cross.

The other semi-final will have two teams that did not make the playoffs in 2024. Nansemond-Suffolk Academy earned the #2 seed and will host St. Anne’s-Belfield in a rematch of the season final won by NSA. Both teams have new head coaches, with Heath Miller in his 2nd season with St. Anne’s-Belfield and Robbie Duncan in his 1st season as head coach at NSA.
