Rich Rodriguez press conference summary post Arizona State

West Virginia head coach Rich Rodriguez addressed the media following the 25-23 road loss to Arizona State and WVSports.com provides a summary of what was said.
–Rodriguez said you have to be able to run the ball to win the game and they had seven opportunities to do it and they don’t do it. They ran for 68 yards, which was embarrassing and they don’t deserve to win the game.
–The game was tight in the first half. He didn’t feel in the first half they were better than them but they are because they won. They can’t move the ball by that much and they got stupid penalties to give them first downs which is a lack of discipline and goes back to coaching. They couldn’t get lined up on the last play on the field goal block which was a lack of discipline and coaching. They rushed for 68 yards.
–Rodriguez said the field goal block attempt which put Arizona State ahead was a matter of getting lined up and doing what you’re supposed to do. It’s as simple as that and he doesn’t know why they couldn’t.
–Rodriguez said when you play the run as hard as Arizona State was playing the run you better have some play action passes. That goes hand-in-hand but still have to be able to run the ball when everybody knows you have to run the ball. He has to watch the film and see how that happened.
–Scotty Fox was alright. He was seeing things and other times he had some true freshman moments. He is a competitive guy and loves to compete and doesn’t have any quit in him. It’s a hell of a lot easier to play quarterback when you can run the ball and you have to get that much.
–Defensive play was average and undisciplined.
—Jeff Sims had 81 yards rushing, they didn’t run him as much but they gave him first downs to win the game on penalties. Not good enough to be undisciplined to win games. Played hard, but they’re supposed to play hard that’s a given.
