Rodriguez eyes couch-burning tradition after WVU’s first big win of the season

Rich Rodriguez isn’t worried about fines or city ordinances if the Mountaineers get a big win.

“I heard there’s a city ordinance against it. But if we win a big game this year, my ass is burning a couch. I’m going to pay the fine ahead of time or something. I don’t care.”

West Virginia will have several chances this year with home games against teams that could be ranked, such as Utah, TCU, and Texas Tech. The Mountaineers will also hit the road for tough matchups at BYU, and Arizona State, where they might be able to pull off a statement win.

Mountaineer fans are hungry for a key victory after the Neal Brown era brought just three wins over ranked teams. It’s been a long stretch without a true signature win, and there’s hope this season might finally bring the kind of upset that’s been missing in Morgantown.

Rodriguez is hoping this year finally delivers, and if it does, he’ll be ready to celebrate the Morgantown way.

“I tell everybody that they cry when we win and they cry when we lose. That’s how important it is.”
