West Virginia lands 2027 right-hander Cole Cheatham
West Virginia has added another arm to its future pitching staff with the commitment of 2027 right-handed pitcher Cole Cheatham.
Cheatham, a 6-foot-3, 230-pound prospect out of Union County (Ind.), brings both size and power to the mound. The right-hander has touched 95 mph with his fastball, consistently sitting in the low 90s with advanced feel for his secondary pitches. His repertoire includes a changeup in the high 80s, a curveball in the low 80s, and a slider in the upper 70s.
Ranked among the top arms in Indiana, Cheatham has shown steady progression over the past two years, improving his velocity by more than 15 mph and establishing himself as one of the more projectable arms in the 2027 class. He also pitches with a spin rate that has climbed near 2,600 RPM, showcasing the ability to miss bats.
Cheatham, who competes with Canes Midwest American, has emerged as one of Indiana’s top prospects in his class and is ranked among Baseball America’s Top 100 high school draft prospects in the 2027 class.
Announcing his decision, Cheatham said:

He now gives the Mountaineers another high-upside addition to the future staff, projecting as a frontline option with continued development.
