The Alabama Crimson Tide went the months of July through November without adding a defensive lineman commitment to their 2024 class.

It was well worth the wait.

On Wednesday, priority defensive lineman target Steve Mboumoua announced his commitment to the Tide. Mboumoua committed to Nick Saban‘s program over an offer sheet that featured Auburn, Georgia, Oregon, and others. He is Bama’s second international commitment of the 2024 cycle as Mboumoua hails from Quebec City in Canada (originally from Cameroon); their other international commit is German-based linebacker Justin Okoronkwo.

Mboumoua’s commitment on the first day of the Early Signing Period comes a day after Bama landed Texas A&M defensive lineman transfer LT Overton via the transfer portal.

Bama dipped into Mboumoua’s recruitment back on June 26. Their offer to him came after he camped at the school earlier in the month. Mboumoua returned to Tuscaloosa in October for the Tennessee game, which was the first-ever college game day visit that he’s taken in his recruitment. Mboumoua officially visited Bama from Dec. 8-10.

After his official visit, the 6-foot-3, 275-pounder raved about the Crimson Tide. He was accompanied on that trip by his mother, sister and stepdad.

“It was their first time going on any visit with me,” Mboumoua told BOL after the official visit weekend in Tuscaloosa. “They really enjoyed every moment. The visit, overall, was a 10/10. Everything just went really well from the football aspect to the relationships with everyone. It’s just a really good deal there.”

In another previous conversation with BOL’s Andrew Bone, Mboumoua discussed what piques his interest the most about Alabama. Following his first visit to the school in June, the On300 prospect raved about the coaching staff and their player development.

“I really like the coaching staff,” Mboumoua previously said of the Tide. “I really liked talking to Coach Saban. He is a great person. He has changed my life.

“What I like about Alabama is the expectations they have for you. I like the players they develop, and I love the coaching. I like Coach Freddie Roach.”

Mboumoua joins a Crimson Tide class that includes in-state defensive lineman commitments Jeremiah Beaman and Isaia Faga. Bama entered Wednesday with the No. 2 overall recruiting class in the 2024 On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
