Alabama finished the regular season with an 11-1 (8-0 SEC) record after beating Auburn 27-24 in the annual Iron Bowl. Despite yet another 11-win season for Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide, it still hasn’t been enough to help them move off the No. 8 spot in the latest College Football Playoff rankings, which were revealed on Tuesday night.

That’s now five-straight weeks of being ranked No. 8 for Alabama.

The most concerning part is that the Crimson Tide will now need to climb four spots in the final rankings in order to make the Playoff. Will that happen with a win over Georgia and the loser of the Oregon-Washington game dropping? I can see them jumping Ohio State too with the Buckeyes sitting at home this weekend, but that’d still only be good enough to get them to No. 5 though. In other words, UA might need some help to get in.

Yes, I understand how crazy that sounds. Alabama would have two-touchdown wins over the No. 11 (Ole Miss), No. 13 (LSU) and No. 21 (Tennessee) teams. Plus, they’d have the most impressive win of the season with a victory over a top-ranked Georgia, who would remain amongst the top-8 after loss. Combine that with the lone loss being to a likely Playoff team in Texas, and you’d think that’d be one of the top resumes in college football.
