Alabama's Philon, Allen sweep SEC Basketball Players of the Week honors

Alabama men’s basketball duo swept the Southeastern Conference weekly honors, as Labaron Philon Jr. was named the SEC Player of the Week and Amari Allen was named SEC Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday morning. 

The weekly accolades come after Philon Jr. and Allen led Alabama to a win over No. 8/8 Illinois in Chicago. Against the Fighting Illini, Philon Jr. led Alabama with 24 points to go along with five assists and two rebounds, while Allen filled the stat sheet with nine points, 11 rebounds and four assists. 

Labaron Philon Jr. Notes

  • Named SEC Player of the Week for the second time this season
  • Recorded his third 20-point game of the season
  • Only player in the SEC to rank in the top-three in scoring (No 3, 20.5 ppg) and assists (No. 3, 5.8 apg)

Amari Allen Notes

  • First SEC Freshman of the Week honor
  • Leads Alabama in rebounds, averaging 8.0 rebounds per contest
  • Ranks third in the SEC and No. 37 in the country in defensive rebounds (6.8)
