Former five-star OL Tommy Brockermeyer transferring from Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Former five-star offensive lineman Tommy Brockermeyer is leaving the Alabama football team. On Monday evening, the news came down that the Forth Worth (Tex.) All Saints Episcopal product is entering the transfer portal and will look to continue his playing career elsewhere.
The news of Brockermeyer’s departure was first broken by On3 college football reporter Matt Zenitz, who also revealed that fellow offensive lineman Amari Kight and wide receiver JoJo Earle would both be entering the portal.

Coming out of high school, Brockermeyer was one of the nation’s top players. The On3 Consensus rankings for 2021 had him as the No. 2 overall player, the No. 2 offensive tackle and the No. 2 player from the state of Texas. The only other tackle ahead of him was fellow Alabama signee JC Latham.
Latham hasn’t had much of an issue getting on the field. As a freshman, he saw 142 snaps while getting action at right guard. Then in the spring, he made the move to right tackle and has become an All-American caliber player, playing 821 snaps and starting all 12 games this season.

Brockermeyer, on the other hand, dealt with an injury during his freshman season. There was hope that he’d take a step forward in Year 2, but so far, he’s only played 19 snaps on offense in two games. Those games were Louisana-Monroe (nine snaps) and Austin Peay (10 snaps).
I’m sure his pedigree will aid him in landing on his feet elsewhere. Sometimes, these things just don’t work out. Brockermeyer’s twin brother, James Brockermeyer, has also been in Tuscaloosa for the past two seasons. We’ll have to wait and see if the center chooses to join his brother in the transfer portal.
Stay tuned for more updates.
