Jam Miller injury update: Latest on Alabama RB to kick off Wisconsin week

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama running back Jam Miller (collarbone) went through warmups before last week’s ULM game but ultimately didn’t play in the 73-0 win over the Warhawks.
Miller dislocated his collarbone in the Crimson Tide’s final preseason scrimmage on August 16 and has not played in either of Alabama’s first two games. Head coach Kalen DeBoer, however, has continued to provide positive updates on Miller, and that continued on Monday.
DeBoer said Miller is one of “a number of guys” who are considered day-to-day, but…
“We’re optimistic that there could be a chance,” DeBoer said on Monday of Wisconsin game week. “I really don’t think we’ll know until later in the week. You saw him in pregame — he was out there doing some things aggressively, trying to continue to push forward.
“You can see that with Jam, he’s chomping at the bit, and we just got to make sure we’re making a smart decision. But that will be left up to our training staff and our doctors, and also how Jam feels. And so, he’s making a lot of progress.”
Miller, a senior, is Alabama’s most experienced running back, and his return would give the Tide backfield a boost. In his absence, Alabama has used a by-committee approach at running back, and redshirt freshman Kevin Riley leads the team in rushing after two weeks of play.

Riley is up to 100 yards on 16 carries. Richard Young has also run the ball double-digit times (15) and turned them into 45 yards and one touchdown. Daniel Hill is one of three tailbacks who consistently see reps with the first offense and has run for 23 yards on six carries.
Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb evaluated the backs’ showings against ULM.
“I thought obviously Kev is a guy that’s made the most out of all his touches,” Grubb said. “I think he led the team again in missed tackles forced, and that’s one thing I think Kevin brings to the table, is his ability to make people miss in open space and real reliable out of the backfield, catching the football. And so I think he’s kind of established that.
“I thought Rich had a couple of really, really physical runs. Had a couple of really nice pass pickups where he was ultra physical. And then Daniel saw a couple of plays in between tackles where he was able to drag some people. So, I thought all of their best characteristics kind of came out in different ways.”
Alabama will welcome Wisconsin to Tuscaloosa on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 11 a.m. CT (ABC).
