Richard Young

Lane Kiffin

After rushing for 1,755 yards and 20 touchdowns as a junior, there’s little question Richard Young is one of the best running back recruits in the country. He’s also a star off the field. When he’s not on the field, Young spends time giving back to his community by coaching at youth football camps. “Everything that's going on, it's unbelievable how someone is getting this much recognition nationally can stay as grounded as he is,” Lehigh athletic director Greg Coleman told Southwest Florida Sports. “He hasn't forgotten his roots, he hasn't forgotten his family. He's just the type of kid that is so grounded.” His mother is Juanita Young, and his guardian is his uncle, Timothy Grubbs. Young plans in majoring in math when he’s in college.

Richard Young bears a striking resemblance to Rashard Mendenhall, in our opinion. Both are around the same size as high school seniors with similar running styles, production and track speed.

Not enough on film yet to project a level. Add more game film and verified measurables to unlock a full projection.

D-III / Dev

Scholarship-caliber traits for Division II and NAIA programs, with room to climb through continued development.

D-II / NAIA

Starter-caliber traits for a Power 4 program (SEC, Big Ten, Big 12, ACC). Squarely on major-conference radars.

Power 4

Blue-chip traits — a high-priority Power 4 target with the tools to contribute early at the highest level.

Blue Chip

The top of the scale — national-caliber talent that every major program pursues, with a clear NFL trajectory.

Elite / Top 100

Physically-developed running back who emerged as a national name as a high school underclassman. Has a good combination of play speed and power. Has a muscular upper body with room to add mass in his lower half. Uses his leg drive to run through tackles at the second level. Shows well above average speed, which is validated by his track times (around 11.1 seconds in the 100 meters). Productive as a junior, rushing for 1,755 yards and 19 touchdowns while averaging nine yards per carry. Production dipped a bit as a senior, as he rushed for 1,102 yards (6.7 yards per carry) and nine touchdowns. Will need to considerably improve his ball skills as a receiver out of the backfield, as he has a tendency to fight the ball. Projects as a between the tackles and short yardage runner. Older for the class, turning 18 years old in the spring of his junior year.
