The John Mackey Award and Rimington Trophy announced their preseason watch lists Friday, continuing two weeks of reveals, and Alabama had one player each land on the watch lists.

Crimson Tide tight end CJ Dippre was named to the watch list for the Mackey Award, which is annually presented to the nation’s top tight end, while offensive lineman Seth McLaughlin was named to the watch list for the Rimington Trophy, given to college football’s best center.

Dippre spent the first two seasons of his college career with the Terrapins, where he appeared in all 25 games. Even though there is talent at his position at Alabama, the 6-foot-5, 260-pound junior has more experience and production than the rest of the Tide’s tight end room. Dippre is joining an offense that will be led by an offensive coordinator that is known for his love to get the tight ends involved in Tommy Rees, and he could be a Day 1 starter out of the portal.

For the second year in a row, McLaughlin closed out the season as the starting center following injury issues for Darrian Dalcourt. With both players back, Alabama looked to get both on the field in the spring, with McLaughlin sticking at center and Dalcourt kicking out to left guard for the majority of the 15 practices. McLaughlin is now a veteran in the offensive line room with double-digit starts under his belt, and his experience should only help the Tide this season.

Alabama has had three Rimington Trophy winners since the award was created in 2000. They were Barrett Jones (2012), Ryan Kelly (2015) and Landon Dickerson (2020). No Crimson Tide player has ever won the John Mackey Award, which was also first handed out in 2000.
